Oaks Indian Mission is located in the heart of the Cherokee Nation in Oaks, Oklahoma, about 60 miles east of Tulsa. Oaks was established in 1838 by Moravian missionaries who came with the Cherokees from Georgia on what has become know as the “Trail of Tears.” Today, Oaks provides residential child care for 30 private, tribal, and state placed children, ages 5 to 18 years old. There will be lots of rewarding hands-on work as we strive to improve their facilities and interact with these beautiful children. This is an incredible place to serve. The adventure is exploring at the Cherokee Heritage Center on the reservation getting to understand their rich culture, the influences that have shaped their nation, and participating in many of their crafts and cultural heritage in a hands-on way.
