I would like to help others experience how most of the world lives and to have it change the way they live their everyday lives. I would like for their compassion for others to be fanned into flame. I want others to understand that the Christian life can be very exciting if they would just step out of their comfort zones and truly trust Christ.

At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
Romans 8:38,39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
Our group was at Casa Hogar Douglas in Monterrey, Mexico, working with Back 2 Back Ministries. We were performing a variety of tasks, including spending time with the kids. Several of the guys were working on installing some decking near the chapel. Two of the boys from the home, around 10 years of age or so, spent the entire afternoon side by side with us, participating as much as they could in the construction. They were so intent on their work and so joyful to be working with “the guys!” It occurred to me that it was through interactions like this that our Heavenly Father would “father” the fatherless. We would be the hands and feet of Christ simply by spending time and modeling what a christian men should be.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
My whole attitude toward missions changed with my mission travel. I learned that God was doing at least as much in me as He was through me. I have become a lot less materialistic and have devoted much more time in service to others and giving.

Why you chose to pursue leading mission adventure travels:
Our company has spent a lot of time lately discussing the idea of creating ripples within our organization as well as around the world. As easy as it would be to write a big check to one of our ministry partners, I find that leading others to see the need of the widow and orphan is a better way to create more ripples that will ultimately impact more lives.

I have led a department of 10-15 employees at Family. I have also led and participated in James Fund mission trips and am an adult volunteer/leader for my son’s Boy Scout troop.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are most guided by?
Phillipians 4:13: “I can do all things in him who gives me strength.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
On a trip to an orphan home south of Monterrey, Mexico called El Limon, we had the unique experience of living with the kids in their home for a week. Our project for the week was to help build a concrete structure that they would use to rent out for soccer leagues and other events. The kids gave us their beds to sleep in and we were fed by the house parents. We participated in their praise and worship time and performed a skit for the kids. We also had one of our partners from the Dominic Republic join us on the trip to learn best practices from other ministry partners.
It was such a memorable trip for me because in a sense we were the orphans that week. We were separated from our families and were taken care of by the house parents and the kids. We spent the whole week with the same kids and got to know them better than if we were visiting different homes each day. The kids would work alongside us as we poured concrete and put up fencing. The skit we performed for the kids had no words so they could follow along despite the language barrier. During the praise and worship time they played songs that the kids sang in Spanish and we sang in English. We really felt like part of the family by the end of the week.
Name the one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
As a Financial Analyst, my job and day to day responsibilities aren’t always the most glamorous to discuss when asked about by family and friends. Now when asked how things are going at work or how our company is doing, I can talk at length about the trips I’ve gone on and the life impacting initiatives in which we are involved. I also openly encourage others in the organization to go on trips because they are life changing.

Why you would like to pursue leading mission adventure travels:
The passion God has given me is to serve, strengthen, and encourage people to become all that God created them to be. As a mission leader I will be given the opportunity to serve those who we are sent to serve and those whom I serve alongside. My greatest joy is serving God by helping others.

Have severed in several locations on mission trips like Honduras, Guatemala and Goshen Valley Boy’s Ranch. Served for a few years as a Youth Director with an internship as well as three seasons as a youth wrestling coach. I am a USA Bronze Certified Coach and have received the Clay Moore Outstanding Official Award.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
Isaiah 61:1: “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
Imagine people from all walks in life serving and caring for other people from the abundance of their hearts. Catholic with Protestant, Lutheran with Baptist, male with female, rich with poor; all with a common purpose of spreading the Good News of the resurrected Christ. There is no strife or disagreement, but fellowship and love for one another. Hungry Children were given food, the homeless are now with a home, the tired and worn out received resting, faith in a God of love and grace was increased, fears were released, hearts were healed, Jesus was served, laughter could be herd all around, the Good News preached, and God was glorified. Perhaps one would call such an image Heaven.
In Guatemala that is precisely what happened. God’s love was shown, and the gospel was preached. Family Christian Stores is in the Life-Changing-God-Glorifying business, and on this mission trip all lives involved will never be the same for we saw God at work before us, after us, beyond us, above us, and below us. This is what I saw happen in Guatemala, and I thank God for being apart of it. All glory to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
My heart grew bigger. After my first mission trip to Honduras I stopped seeing people as different, but all as God’s creation. From there on I’ve tried to live a life that crosses boarders to bring God’s love, just as Jesus did.

I have been blessed to travel to over 60 countries over the years. I have always had a passion to travel and to serve the needy. The awesome thing about Good Goers is it provides the opportunity to tend to the needs of the less fortunate, share the love of Jesus Christ and have a great adventure as well. On top of that, it’s a chance to forge new friendships that share a common vision. What a Blessing!

Name the one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
As a result of my mission trip to Goshen Valley Boys Ranch in Atlanta, Georgia, my wife and I decided to adopt a 14-year-old boy from the Ranch. This was quite a surprise plan that God had in store for us since we had been emptynesters for a decade and had been blessed with 10 grandchildren. God truly does have a sense of humor and thank goodness He does. What a blessing our son is to our entire family.

Why you would like to pursue leading mission adventure travels: I just love to expand the borders of my perception and see God’s Hands at work in our world. I always want to be His vessel ~ anywhere He can use me. I believe Adventure is part of His plan.

Well, I’m a pastors kid & I was the church Youth Director before there were any Youth Pastors. I’ve been on many ministry leadership boards and active in ministry service my whole life. I’ve owned my own business & been in management positions for many years. I’ve had to make tough choices and follow through with challenging situations for the good of all, both in my professional & personal life experiences.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
Proverbs 3:3-4: “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
I would have to say that when I met ‘Mama Connie’ who ran the orphanage in Mexico. I had an instant connection with her because we had the same name. Language barriers were dissolved. Hearing the story of how she started the orphanage ~ because she just could not turn her back on those precious little ones that were sleeping on the street in front of her door ~ I knew I would have had to do the same thing. If I were born into her life ~ I’d have made the same decisions she did & I’d be doing the same thing.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
First, I have become a sponsor of 4 WV children. Last Christmas I took my two sets of grandkids to choose a WV child to sponsor. I told them I don’t want to be remembered for the Grama that made good cookies & took you to movies, I want you to remember me as ‘One who lives her life by faith & walks out her faith sacrificially’. I talk about the ‘children of the world’ to everyone I can! I never let myself or anyone around me forget about the suffering little ones that need our help. I examine my own life & live more simply so that I can give more. I participate in many local mission focused activities like Shoes for Orphans Souls and Operation Christmas Child (my small church works all year to collect enough to fill about 400-500 boxes).

My experience as the mission’s chairperson in my local church was very frustrating because we were not able to facilitate meaningful mission experiences. The James Fund trips I have attended were awe inspiring, life changing events and through Good Goers we have the opportunity to share these unbelievable experiences with those who don’t have the know how.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
On my first James Fund trip to Monterrey Mexico we were charged with completing the first James House on the campus of Casa Hogar Douglas. This house was built to replace an old building that was full of mold, rats, and other “things” that was the home to 14 teenage boys. In Mexico children “graduate” to adulthood at age 14 and most of the boys would be out on the street if not for Back-2-back and the James Fund, but the house they were living in was deplorable.
Each day we would work all day and the boys would run down the road after school asking “Today? Today?” wanting to know if they could move in. For 3 days we would say “No. Not today,” and the boys would start working alongside us. On the fourth day, the boys ran down the road. “Today? Today?”, and we said “Si!”. The boy turned and ran back to their old house, placed their mattresses on their heads and paraded down the road to their new home.
Since then, many of these boys have gone on to graduate from high school or college, breaking the cycle of poverty that would have continued had they not had a safe home and an opportunity. I often wonder what would have happened to many of these boys had they not had this home, this opportunity, and these people.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
Everything I do and everywhere I go I consider how my actions will help others. It’s taken the focus completely from me and put it wholly upon with the needs of others.

I find missions adventure travel so appealing as it helps to engage people in the work that God is doing outside of their own backdoor. Regardless of if it is national or international God is working in the lives of people. By leading these trips I feel connected in what God is doing on His missions field and I see how he uses us as leaders to be the catalyst in that.

Isaiah 6: 1-9: “With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
In 1992 I went to Jamaica on a missions trip. We built a church and ran multiple community events. One orphanage that we visited was an orphanage for handicapped kids. As I was walking in, one little boy grabbed my hand and I picked him up. We never spoke as he was unable to communicate. But I held him for almost 5 hours. He slept some but mainly he just sat comfortably in my arms. Finally it was time for us to go and this boy would not have it. He clung and fought the worker who physically pried him from me. It was at that moment that I really understood the statement that I had heard “If Love were food, they would be starved”. I realized that I don’t have to communicate to these kids, or preach, or even do fancy crafts; sometimes all it takes is a loving embrace or holding their hand. Anyone can show Christ to these children.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
Going on missions trips have helped me to live my life with intentionality towards missions. As a family we have become better stewards of our resources. Personally it has changed my life to cause in me a desire to advocate for those in need. And again as a family it has lead our heart to God’s plan for us to adopt. So it has changed me in numerous ways.

Why would you like to pursue leading mission adventure travels:
Helen Keller once said, “I am one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do.” When ordinary people are generous with their lives and willing to open up to widows and orphans, change takes place. Being able to be a part of a movement that helps others fulfill the Great Commission while aligning my own heart with God’s desires-Incredible!

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
I had the incredible privilege of visiting the Herrera School in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. To understand what a blessing this school is to the community of children that fill its’ classrooms, our mission team took a walk around the streets that surround the school. As my feet descended down the narrow pathways, my eyes saw massive piles of litter and many barefooted children playing in the streets. My nose could not escape the smell. Raw sewage was running directly under the bridge we were standing on. The sights and smells made me wonder how can one person make any difference here?
I immediately prayed, “Father God, never let me forget this and never let me forget what you have called me to do.” It was at that time that an 8 year old girl smiling from ear to ear named Ameli, appeared at my side. She kept running her fingers through my long blonde hair. She gripped my hip in one of the firmest hugs I have ever received. She walked with me all the back to the Herrera School. Ameli asked me to take her photo, hugged me good-bye, and called me her “amigo.” I probably only spent 15 minutes with her.
Her encounter showed me to have courage to reach out and share your heart with someone. You never know you just might be an answer to prayer. Her smile, her words, and her hugs showed me that each one of us is called to take action to give what we can to make a positive difference in this world.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
Mission travel has opened up new opportunities for me to follow Jesus’ example of a servant. I have become more involved with local missions in my community to create global change. I have developed a deeper prayer life and have realized that when we each do our part the Body of Christ can accomplish great things!

I would be honored to lead a team to help those in need. Serving with others along with facilitating a successful mission trip would be would be my goal.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
Holding a 2 year old boy named Jason who had had a terrible start to life with no father figure, a mother who was on drugs and a prostitute. He was in very bad health, poorly nourished with scabs all over his head due to bugs that had infected his scalp. I could tell he was feeling poorly, I held him and we sang until he fell asleep….upon awaking his eyes grew large as he saw that there was pizza for lunch, he scurried down and promptly consumed 2 large pieces of pizza.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
I have become more aware and responsive to those in need in my home town, I volunteer monthly at a hospital food bank as well as various church ministries.

Why you would like to pursue leading mission adventure travels:
Being Christ’s hands and feet brings with it a sense of accomplishment, enjoyment & fulfillment. Being Christ’s love to the orphan and the widow allow you to see through his eyes what he means by loving “the least of these.” My experience on mission trips in the past has helped me to see exactly what that means.

I have been a Cubmaster with Boy Scouts of America for several years. This role has helped prepare me to mentor kids from all kinds of backgrounds and abilities (and be totally able to make a fool out of myself). I have led small groups in the inner city where our goal was to reach the underprivileged in my backyard. This experience helped me to learn to tackle problems head-on and not let them become bigger than they actually are. I have been a retail manager for many years. This experience has helped me learn to think on my feet, thrive under changing circumstances, and prioritize tasks.

James 1: 2-3: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
In Monterrey, Mexico, I experienced a medical miracle when helping wash a gigantic barrel full of clothes. I had no allergy medicine, yet found myself chest deep in this giant vat of mold – which I am severely allergic to. I remember saying a prayer to God stating – “You put me here – you’re gonna have to take care of this!” I had no allergic reaction to the mold and my sniffles from the day before cleared up as well! That trip was memorable for so many reasons, but on that day God taught me how to trust him unconditionally.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
My heart for the orphan, especially the fatherless kids right in my neighborhood has been forever changed. It’s no longer good enough to just train my own kids. I know God has called me to a deeper mission with every child I have a chance to influence.

I love the challenge and reward aspect of mission work and adventure travels. They both present unique sets of opportunity that have to be embraced. I love becoming part of a team to accomplish the goal. It’s a very rewarding experience and one that becomes even more rewarding when you can share the love of God while accomplishing the task.

Currently manage construction and facilities for Family Christian throughout the country, church youth group leader, have participated in and led multiple mission trips throughout the country/world.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
2 Tim. 1:9-10: ”For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time-to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
I was in the Dominican Republic working on a boy’s Foster Home. We were talking to the “House Parent” Mario; he was explaining what his daily tasks are and some of the things he does for all of the boys that live there. He told us that he moved to the Dominican from Spain to help these boys out. The part that put it all into perspective for me was when he told us that his “salary” for the work that he is doing will be the smiles that are on the boys’ faces when he sees them walk into the Kingdom of Heaven. That’s enough to make you realize why you’re there.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
I believe each mission trip I go on helps me to learn more about myself through the people that I work with and serve. They make me a better person and create an urge for me to pass along the values that I’ve learned from them to others that I come in contact with. Each trip creates a different experience for me to draw upon at some point in the future.

After my first mission trip with the James Fund, I truly felt God move in my life by seeing the hands and feet of Jesus in the missionaries who live this every day. My hope is to lead and share my faith by also being the hands and feet of Jesus.

I have been in management for many years. I have also taken leadership classes in college.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
Psalm 28:7: “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
There are many memorable moments. I was in Chichicastenango, Guatemala helping build homes for Mayan widows. After a long day of building the home and playing with the many beautiful children, the group of us was able to present the new home to the widow. The interpreter explained that this was a gift from Jesus. The group of missionaries, the widow and her family entered her new home and gave thanks to the Lord. Even though we were praying in different languages, the power and love of Jesus filled the new home and we praised God together as one family. God is limitless and amazes me every day. God knows no boundaries.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
I would not be so fearful of everyday life and reminded myself that God is with me always.

Why you would like to pursue leading mission adventure travels:
Have you ever wondered what Paul or any of the other disciples felt like when they entered a town to proclaim Jesus? Well I am no Paul, but what an exciting feeling to go somewhere, where no one knows you and to be able to proclaim Jesus by simply doing as He asked us to do in His word, do the small things, help someone who needs help, to touch a child’s life and give them hope. To see joy on the faces of those you are serving because their life will be better because of your obedience. That is why I like to lead mission adventure travels.
Leadership skills and experiences you can draw upon:
I have served in the military and as a law enforcement officer in the past. I was also a youth minister for many years as well as holding several other leadership positions within the church body. I have been involved with many resets and store moves helping to lead others to a successful presentation of the new or remodeled store.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
1 Thessalonians 2:4: “But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
I was in Juarez, Mexico, leading a group of 7 other adults & 14 teenagers. We were building a house for an elderly gentleman on the outskirts of the city. At lunch I noticed across the field that there were a couple of young children playing in an abandoned bus and watching us. I went over to them and shared a couple of bags of potato chips and a candy bar. After lunch we played tag around the bus and played with some yoyo’s that I had brought. The few moments that I spent with them made them smile and maybe forget about some of the “what we consider tragic” things going on in their lives. These same children also took me to see their pig, I made “piggy” noises and the pig “oinked” back, they thought it was funny that I was talking to the pig.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
I have become a “softer” person in some regards, as far as dealing with people who are in need, physically and spiritually, at the same time I have grown probably very intolerant of petty squabbles within the church about things which are not doctrinally important, I don’t care what color the carpet is.

Why would you like to pursue leading Mission Adventure Travel:
I would like to help others experience how God is working in a different culture and to help ease others beyond their comfort zone. I feel my ability to speak a foreign language would give the opportunity for others to know the heart of those in need. Ultimately, I want to be a servant to do God’s work.

I have years of management experience. I am currently serving on the board of directors for a Christian counseling group. I have lead several men’s study groups. For several years I have served as a Christian Service Brigade captain. I am blessed to be the father of two grown children.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
Isaiah 40:28-31: “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
On my trip to Monterrey, we brought animal crackers to share with the kids. A little girl grabbed my hand and asked me to feed them to her one by one. She had never had them before and didn’t know what they were. As I gave each one to her, I shared with her the name of each animal and the noise they made. God just melted my heart.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:

Why would you like to pursue leading Mission Adventure Travel:
I have a passion to serve others through our stores and through the Good Goers opportunity. I want to show others my same passion in serving the orphan and widow through leading a Good Goers trip. My love for orphans and children are the main reason that I am pursing leading others. A child’s life is impacted by every deposit that someone has given them or shown them. I plan to show others how to deposit Jesus Christ in the orphans and widows lives that we interact with on a trip.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
On my first James Fund trip in Moneterry, Mexico, I experienced one God moment after another. One that sticks out the most was when we went to The RIO 2 neighborhood. The RIO was considered to a poor neighborhood next to a river. There were houses made of scrap metal, wood, old cloth or blankets, and dirt floors. It was my first time seeing people living without some of the basic things I was used to, like a house. We were at a local church that was being built in the community and it was being planted there to help the residents of that neighborhood. We got the opportunity to go out in the community and ask children and their parents if they want to receive a free meal and hear the message of Jesus Christ. While we were walking there was a little girl and little boy following behind us asking us to play with them and give them a piggy back ride. The day before we sealed the top of one the building at the Back2Back campus, in which I got a bad sunburn from not applying enough sunscreen. Another team member started to put the little boy on his back and play with him by running back and forth. Well the little girl was still looking at me to do the same and I was in pain from my sunburn from the day before. I decide to put her on my back anyways, because I wanted to show her God’s love through compassionately spending time with her. I was in so much pain during that piggy back ride, but I realized that at that moment I was holding the Cross for Christ! I was being Jesus to her by showing love through playing and having fun.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
I have committed to the James 1:27 Challenge, in all areas of my life. I have got more involved in missions in my community and church family. I plan to continue being an active and passionate advocate for the orphans through World Vision in my store. I also share that passion with every employee, guest, and person that I come in contact with on daily basis.

I love going on mission trips and spending time with the locals, just loving on them and telling them about Jesus, and I’m excited to be able to lead other people on the mission adventure travels showing them new ways to interact with the people we are there to serve.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
My first year that I went to Mexico, on the last day we took the kids from one of the children’s homes to an amusement park and I had a little 5 year old boy that was so full of energy. He was so excited to be going that he ran from ride to ride and would ride each ride so many times. Although it made me so tired by the end of the afternoon, it was such a blessing to be able to experience his excitement and run around with him all day.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
My first mission trip was years ago and I fell in love with the children in the children’s homes and ever since that trip I have looked for ways to go on at least one trip each year to serve in childrens homes and have also begun serving in the childrens ministry at my church.

I realize these trips are life changing experiences and any time I can help someone draw closer to the widow or care for the orphan, I’ve not only done what God’s asked but what I love. Seeing someone experience something outside of their own little world is so exciting. I think it’s important to have a leader that has been where you’ve been and has the same questions and fears you once had- I hope I can help our travelers have the best experience they can while serving the Lord.

In my past jobs as well as my Mary Kay business, I’ve learned very important people skills. Understanding personality types can help you understand why a person thinks the way they do or why they need to be stimulated differently than another. I’ve adapted to engage all personalities and know how to get them involved and feel they are part of the team. People want to contribute something but each person has their own special gift to bring. The biggest lesson on leadership for me is the fact it’s not all about the leader but it’s more about taking people along with you and at times letting them take the lead.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
My first trip to Monterrey, Mexico we got to take a group of girls from the Douglas home to the zoo for the day. The girls all came out wearing matching pink veloure jump suits and their hair was wet and combed from the baths they all got in preparation for their big day out! I used my very broken and spotty Spanish and was able to communicate with my little gal pretty quickly. For a couple of hours, we played, we ate, we took pictures and ran all over that zoo. I’ll never forget the feeling I had when we dropped them off and I waved goodbye to her knowing I wouldn’t see her again. I had fallen for that little girl in such a short time. My heart ached that she lived in a orphanage and didn’t have her own bed or room to sleep in. I knew from that moment on that I would do anything I could to support the James Fund and tell others about the cry of the orphan because that day the orphan had a heartbeat, a smile, a warm hand to hold. She was real.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
Because of mission travel I’ve appreciated all the things I have and own and view myself as rich in love as well as material possessions. Walking through those homes and noticing the lack of comfortable furniture, good and functioning plumbing, and cupboards full of food. I think differently about how I give and the things I spend my own money on. I love that these trips take me outside of my bubble and my comfort zone but always where I can feel safe.

Mission trips are life changers! Sometimes we get complacent in our own little world. Mission trips let us see God working in ways we never dreamed. We dig deep and not only help others but we help ourselves.

I have been a manager for many years, however upon taken a “fruit of the spirit” test it was confirmed that my spiritual gift is leadership. I feel God has confirmed this through various leadership roles.

That would have to be Africa. I left my heart in Africa. I was the trip of a lifetime. We worked with the young ladies while the men worked construction. My most memorable moment has to be the washing of the caretakers feet. The caretakers of the children are called “Aunties”. The ladies of the mission trip wanted to give them a special treat by washing there feet and giving them lotions and perfumes. Just as Jesus did for his disciples. My mission has always been that to lead is to serve.

My store is run differently. I know what we do for the orphans and widows and I want everyone to know. I also want to take my son on a mission trip so he can understand what it mean to live like Jesus.

My most impactful mission trip moment was at an orphanage in Monterrey, Mexico. I really connected with a young boy and in our conversation asked him when his birthday was. His response was “I don’t know”. That really hit me and highlighted the importance for me to do all I can to help fulfill God’s promises to the orphan

I feel that this a calling that the Lord has placed in my heart after being on the two trips that I have been on.

I have been in a leadership role in retail management for many years. I also have been a leader of small group bible studies that has helped grow in my spiritual faith in Jesus Christ. My wife and I have started and lead a special needs ministry at church for autistic children that was a great blessing to us. Being an eagle scout with the Boys Scouts has greatly helped me in my leadership skill by being a patrol leader and on the troop staff.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
In Monterrey, Mexico I experienced a beautiful day where the orphans came over for a swim day after our work poring concrete for a new patio was done. The boys came first and it was a blast. The men got in the pool with the boys and had a great game of water bombardment. Casey Bailey was our trip leader, and he seemed to catch the worst of it from the boys. Balls were flying all over the place. The boys really enjoyed how the men got into the game with them. The women on the trip stayed on the edge of the pool and loved on and held the young boys from the orphanage. One little boy found a home in the arms of one of the women and he let her hold him tight for the longest time. After we were all exhausted from playing with the boys, the girls came over and we switched roles. The men sat along the perimeter of the pool and watched as the the women of the team played with the girls. It was a lot calmer. One thing that was shared with us that evening was that as the men sat around the pool, we sat in a protective circle around the girls as they played, just as fathers would do with their own children. This was lost on the men as we where doing this, but not on the orphan girls, where for one day they had many fathers watching over them to keep them safe. We then had a birthday party for some select orhans with presents that where brought by the team. We had cake, lemonade, and lots of laughs. One thing that gripped my heart was that for many of these orphans, they do not know for sure when their real birthday is. They had been abandon with no knowledge of when that day was. So they get to pick! That day was special for these orphans, and because of this trip and the James Fund, it became a special day for us all. What a great ripple effect!
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
I have learned to be more courageous and out spoken when talking about the James Fund and the cause for the orphan and the widow. This has been demonstrated in the store as well as outside of the store. I have seen the difference it has made in my life as well as those who have been on these trips and the transformation in lives.

My first ever mission trips was with the James Fund. I was scared, nervous, not sure what would happen. I was so blessed by my experience that I want everyone to witness the courage of these kids day in and day out with their own two eyes. I want to help people who may have never been on a mission trip feel comfortable and have the experience bless their life.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
The first night on a Goshen trip we gathered for a prayer service. Firepits were burning, the night air was cool and quiet, and as everyone approached the service area, it was quiet and peaceful. The leaders asked to all missionaries and boys to write on a card what was on our heart, then to bring to the big wooden cross our paper and nail it in the cross. Seeing the boys, some who had done this before some who had not, some who had been at Goshen a couple years some only a few days, all prayerfully take the nailing to the cross and lifting up our hearts seriously, was an inspiration to me.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
My awareness of adoptions both domestically and internationally, awareness of human slavery, human trafficking, etc. I talk about it with all my friends now and share information I find from various organizations I follow on Facebook. I learn something new every day about the needs of the kids in our world and I pass on that awareness and try to get people connected with the bigger picture.

Any moment where you see someone that simply needs love and compassion open their heart to you on a trip. It means so much to them and we have an opportunity to truly be the hands and feet of Christ to them.

I’ve become more compassionate and patient with others, especially those I do not know well. We don’t always know others background or the challenges they have faced that shaped who they have become. I feel compelled to put my faith into action after my first mission trip. I love watching God use others for His glory. Encouraging people to make a difference in the lives or orphans and widows draws me closer to a real sense of purpose and kingdom work is so much fun!

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
On a stateside mission trip I became close to a boy whose room I was painting. As we painted his bathroom, I wrote a prayer on his wall. This opened the door for us to talk about Christ. I asked him if he had a Bible and he said no. I gave him my personal Bible and showed him verses I had underlined that meant a lot to me. After the trip, we wrote each other a note. He has been reunited with his father and I think of him often and pray that he knows he is never alone, that he has a Father in heaven that will never desert him and that has a great plan for his life.

I now work full time coordinating mission trips and sharing the message to serve the needs of orphans and widow. I no longer can sit still but feel driven by the Spirit to be the voice of the fatherless and the widow.

Orphans and widows are near to God’s heart and that’s where I want to be. Helping people serve, defend, rescue and lift up the Fatherless and the widow is a marvelous, transforming experience.

I have been blessed to have been on over 30 mission trips to five countries under the tutelage of strong, Godly leaders. I’ve walked with team members who are “out of their element”, so together we could help rescue orphans and widows in their distress. Through our trips, we’ve seen orphans and widows break the cycle of poverty becoming independent, educated, contributing members of their societies.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
I think of Tomasa, a widow in Guatemala. Sometime into the project of building her a home, my strength was spent. I was no longer able to hold high the heavy, damp boards and nail them to her house. Not wanting to sit idly by, I wondered into the family’s yard and tried to engage Tomasa and her daughter-in-law, Cindi in conversation. This was challenging as I spoke little Spanish and no Quiché. Fortunately communication doesn’t rely solely on spoken words so we were able to connect. I was admiring the colorful textiles which were laid out to dry in the sun. Cindi proudly gathered other items Tomasa had created, items she intended to sell at Market. As the building project wrapped up, our team distributed new shoes to Tomasa, her family and neighbors. Before we left, Tomasa gave me a piece of her handiwork as a gift. I treasure it knowing she used her God-given talents to create it and share it with a stranger from another country. A part of Tomasa lives not only in my memory, but physically in my home as well. I guess that’s how it is with sisters (in Christ).
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
God has opened my eyes to His calling to serve orphans and widows and I know that the journey I’m on will be a life-long adventure. Faith-walkers don’t retire. The pace may slow some and the gate of my walk may change, but that’s alluring – all part of serving Him at every stage of life.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
I met a young man named Israel at Jackie’s House outside of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is wheel chair bound with a congenital bone and muscular condition. Although he is in nearly constant pain, he is almost always upbeat, smiling and full of grace and gratitude. He led the group each day in prayer, giving thanks to his “Papa Dios” (“Daddy God”) for the blessing of his new friends from America who came to visit and serve. He is truly full of the Spirit of God, and exhibits the Fruits of the Spirit to all around him.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
I am more involved in the lives of children through serving in Children’s Ministries and volunteering as a youth soccer coach. I am much more intentional in my relationships with my family, spending more time with my wife and children, engaging in activities important to them and ensuring they know what a blessing they have been in my life.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
There are moments in life that you can never forget. Sometimes it’s a birth of a child or maybe your daughters wedding. In my case it was little orphan girl in Monterrey Mexico. We had spent a week working and playing with the children. On the last day of our mission trip, a small girl walked up to me and gave me a note. The note simply said “I love you, thanks for helping me.” That note made my week! It showed me just how much of an impact that we could have in helping these orphan children.

I have seen first hand how important the roll of a father is in the life of a child. My children are on their own now however I now set time aside each week to talk with them and to stay apart of their lives.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
Our team visited children with HIV and my first thought was, they are going to die. I was sad and I started to feel a little hopeless. Then our guide’s testimony was told. She has HIV and she had a daughter that had recently died. My world rocked. This beautiful woman was actively being the hands and feet of Jesus giving hope to children while she deals with HIV and has lost a child. I was incredibly humbled. My heart was broken. In that moment God showed me that it’s about how we live until we die that matters.

Actively got involved with the church’s outreach programs to include young adults, young women and the homeless.

I have had some unusually difficult times in the last few personally, in business, financially, and mission trips will continue to place these times and occurances in their proper perspective. Ministering to others does that. It is what Jesus did and continues to do in our lives.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
In Monterrey we were out with the children and speaking with them about their birthdays, and one little girl said she didn’t know when her birthday was, because her mother never told her. She said it so matter of factly, like I would say I don’t remember where my pen is. It showed me how selfish we can be when someone perhaps forgets our birthday and we are kind of hurt by it.

I am journaling more frequently now than before my trip.

I would like to pursue leading mission travels because I am passionate about sharing God’s love with those who are in desperately need to experience it.

I have developed leadership during my years in retail management. In addition to retail experience, I also volunteer each Sunday as a teacher in my church’s preschool, lead elementary small groups during our yearly Vacation Bible School, and have been a counselor at a christian camp several times over the past few years. All of these activities have fueled my passion for serving, and especially for sharing God’s love with children.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
My most memorable mission trip moment would be when we got to go spend the week at a children’s home called El Limon. The team was going to stay at the children’s home that week so we knew we were not going to have beds, it was going to be air mattresses on the floor for us that week. It was a pretty long drive from the Back to Back campus, so we arrived late. The house parents came out to show us where we were going to be staying for the week. They walked us into this room where there were empty sets of bunk beds for us to sleep in. We learned that night that the children wanted to give their beds, one of the only things they could call their own, to us for the week. That was a very humbling moment to know that these kids that have very little to call their own, loved us enough to sacrifice their beds for us before they even knew us.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
First and foremost, I have learned not to take anything for granted. Things that seemed so normal for me, like clean water, shoes, healthy food and a roof over my head are truly gifts from God. Because I have found such personal satisfaction in serving, I have become more active in serving in my own church and community.

It is important to me to work with a ministry where orphans and widows are served. I know that my walk with God is closer than before because I have served Him through this ministry. I am relying more fully on Him and trusting His character in this work. The Spirit of God has moved me from “called” to “compelled.” And “oh, by the way,” take someone with me when I go.

Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
The mission trips I enjoy the most is where we have a longer project in a specific home. This allows us to interact with kids as well as handle more difficult repairs or time consuming projects. For example, we painted the entire outside of Jackie’s House in the DR. That trip really set my heart in motion to work with widows and orphans. We spent 3 days in that one house, painting and playing with kids. We also did this with Siloe in the DR. The Oaks is also a good trip to engage with kids because of the ability to be on the campus all week.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
My entire “retirement” plans have changed. I plan to take multiple mission trips each year and perhaps live in another country for 3 months as an intern.

Why you would like to pursue leading mission adventure travels:
I have been so blessed to be a participant on various trips and I would like to see others benefit from the similar experiences.
Leadership skills and experience you can draw upon:
I will draw upon my past experiences in leadership at Family Christian Stores in my role as Director of Tax & Accounting, as well as previous James Fund trips and church and neighborhood leadership roles.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
Philippians 4:4-8: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
Each time I go on a James Fund Mission Trip, I am blessed. God pulls me out of my comfort zone and surprises me! One example of this is from the April, 2011 Mexico trip was walking through the Cadereyta on Wednesday. Oscar from Back 2 Back took a group of us into the streets in order to invite families for lunch at at church. He told us what to say in Spanish, but most of us were not very fluent. I was uncomfortable but tried and made lots of mistakes. Eventually the residents could understand us with Oscar’s assistance. One older couple we invited said they were going to a meeting so they would not be able to attend. But they were very happy to shake our hands and talk with us. Later that afternoon when we were serving lunch, they appeared. They seemed to enjoy lunch and watching all that was going on especially the kids activities. We never know how God will use our efforts.

Mission trips have made me work at living with less.

Why you would like to pursue leading mission adventure travels:
Leading trips allows me to encourage folks with hearts for orphans and widows to pursue their passion with real vigor. My heart for leading is to help others gain a new perspective on God’s heart for orphans and widows, and in gaining this new perspective are forever changed.
Leadership skills and experiences you can draw upon:
It has been my privilege to serve in leadership positions over many years now in several large organizations. I have also been able to lead many short term mission teams all over the world. These experiences allow me guide others in journeys of growth, challenge, and impact. My experience has taught me that at the end of our comfort zones, growth begins and reliance upon God is made vital.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
Micah 6:8: “Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
We were able to be a privileged team that was doing the finishing work on a new orphanage for young boys in Monterrey. Their current home was a re-vamped storage shed that was filthy, falling apart and smelled terrible. Even before the paint was dry the boys wanted to move in. We kept asking them to hold off so we could really make it special for them, but the wait proved too much. At some point one of the boys went to get his mattress and move in. When all the others saw this young boy take the imitative, they bolted to action. The sight of 20 boys moving their mattresses on their heads across the filed to their new home was precious to behold. We fondly remember this move in moment as “the mattress parade”. This image of joy, anticipation, and hope still really moves me.
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
The entire orientation of my life has been clarified as a result of mission travel and hands-on orphan care. My life passion is to serve orphans and widows in their distress and to be a voice for them as long as God gives me breath.

Why you would like to pursue leading mission adventure travels:
I consider it an honor to be able to participate in our mission trips, and the opportunity to share that experience with people outside of Family Christian Stores. Leading a trip will allow me to use my passion for missions and the ability God has given me to lead all in one!
Leadership skills and experiences you can draw upon:
I have been in leadership positions for as long as I can remember: cheerleader, class officer, club leader, drama team, management for years, team leader in St Louis, children’s church/choir, camp counselor, and assistant dean.
At this point in your life what is the Scripture verse that you are guided by?
Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,he refreshes my soul.He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Describe your most memorable mission trip moment:
Goshen Valley Boys Ranch, after a week of serving along side of these amazing young men, we joined together for a video of the week, some funny, some serious, and then the boys and staff circled around the missionaries and prayed over us…we were there to serve and pray for them. What a wonderful sight, all of the young men, thanking God for our service and asking for a blessing over us!
Name one thing that you have done differently in your life as a result of mission travel:
After my first trip to Mexico, I came home so excited but also burdened to help children at home. Through God’s designed plan, I met with a group that had a ministry called Metro Kids…a Sunday night outreach for inner-city children. We have church for them..very high energy, non-stop, games and snacks. This has been a great blessing for the past years.
