Goshen Valley Testimonials: Good Goers A Short Term Missions Trip Ministry

“I don’t know that I can point to one particular instance that stands out above all, so I would have to take the week as a whole. My “objective” this week was more to make any of the boys I spent time with to feel normal and accepted, given that they were in abnormal circumstances and the rejection in their lives prior to the ranch. It was clear after a very short time that many just wanted someone to take an interest in them personally. Aaron, Steven, and Jose were 3 that jump out the most, at first they seemed shy awkward and out of place but it didn’t take long for them to open up and be themselves. If it was shooting hoops, tossing around the football, or just joking and laughing I was privileged to be a part of what I hope is a healing process and re-building of self esteem for these kids who have been hurt so many times in their lives. I could truly see God at work on this ranch and it was clear that every one of those boys loved it there and felt loved.”

“Sitting on a sunny porch in a rocking chair making sock puppets with teenagers – singing disco songs like “Staying Alive”, watching even the shyest – most pensive young teenager break a smile. Relaxed, safe, and walls of defense just starting to crumble. It was glimpses, seconds at a time – because sometime anger, or frustration would bubble up, but when those smiles and relaxed shoulders came thru, it was like looking at God’s eyes shining through.”

“On Tuesday, Zach Blend and Aaron took Teresa and myself for a tour. Aaron volunteered to take us around, he pointed out history of the scenery, fun facts and such. We go to the lake where we’ll have communion and worship. Aaron tells us about what’s going to happen, then he tells Teresa and myself, he’s taking us to his favorite place, the meditation place at the lake. Aaron proceeds to give us his story. All I can say is that he is a remarkable young man of God. I’ll never be the same.”
