Good Goers: About: Family Christian

Good Goers Mission-Based Adventure Travels

Good Goers mission trips combine Christ-centered orphan and widow care with very real challenges of serving at home and abroad. Each travel adventure is designed to take you off the tourist path and deeper into fellowship with our Creator God. During your experience, you’ll have the opportunity to impact lives –directly. Together, we’ll roll up our sleeves and take on projects that serve real needs, both in this life and beyond.

Good Goers trips will test you. It takes courage, obedience and faith to face His adventure. Pursuing the physical and spiritual well-being of the orphan and widow is a powerfully rewarding privilege, one we would love to share with you. Please, join us on a mission to provide care for today and hope for tomorrow. Exploring God’s creation with your heart and senses is an adventure that will stay with you forever. Consider becoming a Good Goer today.

The Good Goers Story

At Family Christian Stores, we’ve always sought a greater role in ministry. Helping customers find, grow, share and celebrate their faith through our stores is incredibly enriching. However, we began to see that we were called to do more. For years, we prayerfully considered new opportunities to enter deeper into ministry life. Ultimately, we were moved to take up the call to action found in James 1:27 – to look after orphans and widows in distress. It was the beginning of The James Fund and a mission that would inspire Good Goers Mission-Based Adventures.

The James Fund Story

The James Fund grew out of overwhelming need. The number of orphaned youths across the world is a staggering 148 million, and the plight of widows has been well documented. These often-neglected lives needed our care and support. Founded in 2003 by Family Christian Stores, The James Fund began partnering with customers, suppliers, and artists in a single mission: to directly touch the lives of orphans and widows throughout the world. And to do so by showing them the love of our Heavenly Father.

From the very start, The James Fund was compelled to action by the many promises God makes to orphans and widows in Scripture.  God promises to vindicate them,  rescue them, deliver them, hear them, lift them up, be their father, meet their needs and to maintain their cause. But here’s where it gets interesting: God intends for these promises to be fulfilled through us, His Church. The Body of Christ is directly called upon in James 1:27.

The James Fund works with believers across the country –to serve as God’s hands and feet to orphans and widows. What we stand for is really quite simple. We want to work where God is at work; we want to serve in the places that God is calling us; we want to provide care for today and hope for tomorrow, all in the name of Jesus Christ.

The heart of The James Fund is intentional action on behalf of orphans and widows:

• To provide hands-on orphan and widow care through mission trips in the U.S. and Latin America.

• To enable domestic and international adoption by providing assistance grants to key ministry partners.

• To provide financial resources to assist in quality of life improvements across the globe.

• And to equip churches and people with the tools and resources needed to start orphan and widow ministries of their own.

A Growing Commitment

As we encountered the orphan and widow, God continued to work on us. He deepened our commitment and our desire to share the privilege of serving orphans and widows with others. This became the fabric of our mission.
